Children’s Environment Day

Every two years, the Riedelhof farm in Eubabrunn in the Vogtland hosts the German-Czech Children’s Environment Day.

Along with the Oberes Vogtland Landscape Conservation Association, we invite children from nursery age to 4th grade (equivalent to Year 5 in the UK) to this major event. The children come from schools in the Vogtland in Germany and Kraslice and Luby in the Czech Republic. The day is focused on environmental education through play. Activities and attractions include crafting, short excursions into the woods and mountain meadows, short films about the environment, puppet shows with an environmental focus, musical theatre, flower photography, felting, rope-making, riding, a petting zoo, beekeeping, aquatic animals, an environmental education van, and a model milking cow and dairy products from the dairy. The State Agricultural Office is represented at the event, and the winners of the local Dairy Queen or Linden Princess Pageants are often invited as well. The Vogtland cycling centre, mountain rescue and fire services are also represented, and carriage rides, old-timer tractors and an ice-cream stand add to the fun of the event. Around 40 stands are available to entertain the 800 to 1000 children at the idyllic Riedelhof farm.

The event is funded by the Saxony State Foundation for Nature and the Environment (LaNU) and supported with contributions from the Free State of Saxony to foster cross-border cooperation to promote the European idea.
